Super Meat Shoot **** last minute update***

Post by kjett » Thu Jan 19, 2012 9:50 pm

It's been talked about, and I'm willing to host it! So here goes nothing.....

To give everyone time to make plans and get their stuff together, let's set the date for Feburary 25th. Door's open at 9am, shoot starts at 11am. How many rounds do ya'll wanna go, cuz I can set ya up to shoot all day and all night if you want!

To keep the spirit of the "meat shoot", we'll restict guns to 36" max overall length barrels (from end of receiver to end of choke), 1' max diameter, .675 choke restriction. Scopes, beads, rifle sights all good. Bags, bi-pods, your hands to steady, all good.

Targets are set at 66' distance. The bench is plenty long enough to handle your bi-pod guns!

Any preference on shells? We normally shoot Federal Top Gun 9's at our house, and I keep them available. But if MAJORITY wants a different shell to shoot, I will make the effort to change for this event to bring y'all in!

And lastly, since I'm expecting people to travel in from out of town, let's make it worth the while and go all money rounds! Tell me what you guys want for this match and if majority agrees, it's done! Call it North vs South, East vs West, Big Bore vs Small Bore grudge match! :knives:

Awesome. I like Wagners but don't object to Top Guns. They may actually make it more competitive. Your place has ample parking, nice kitchen, plenty of seating, and enough windows to support this no problem. I will go on record that imma be shooting a 740 bore :-)
Since 1" barrels are permitted they can be drop in I assume? I just got my 1" together and this Saturday will be the maiden shoot. Hope lots can make it.

I don't see why drop in chokes would not be allowed. Bring it on! :rifle:

I can get a couple slabs of bacon to shoot for if that makes ya happy. If I got steaks for prizes, we'd have to have a grill running to sample em and make sure they were good :D

Slinger,

Address is:

6566 St Stephens Church Rd
King George VA 22485

Probably would be best to GPS or Mapquest it for directions since I have no idea where you are coming from. I could send ya directions from my house, but doubt it would do you any good.

Come up Friday, head over to the block to shoot 9's at 56'. Come back to King George Saturday morning for the Super Meat Shoot, then either hang around our place for shooting for meat at night or run over to Brook's to shoot Wagners for $$ at 60'. Make it a weekend full :D

Sounds like the start of a new type of shoot Karl! Top Guns are fine with me. Entree fee or 5.00 a shot sounds good too.

Here’s my idea for a super shoot.

Gun
Only restriction on guns is 40 inch barrel limit, everything else goes.

Rules
$200 buy in for all rounds.
Only one gun and one choke, no switching chokes or gun during the super shoot.
Shooter will shoot 5 rounds at 60 Ft. (Blow out Chiggers.) Winner of each round will get 5 points for a win.
Shooter will shoot 5 rounds at 90 Ft. (highest shot count in a 2 in circle wins.) Winner of each round will get 5 points for a win.
Shooter with most points at the end of the Match wins entire pot ( winner take all)

Shells (Shooter can pick whatever shell he or she what’s to use. )
Estate #9’s
Top Gun #9’s
Remington #9’s
AA #9’s
Wagner #9’s

The winner of this match could claim to own the most bad A$$ all around gun…lol..What ya all think about this kind of match?

It would be good if the house has enough land to set up 2 different target distances to handle all the shooters. Easy enough to do if you have a cable setup for your target holders, but a little more difficult with fixed target holders.

I like the Super Meat Shoot, idea,,,,, .675 stuff,,, no big barrels,,,jmo. Even though my Ithaca ain't scared of any big gun,,,, I still enjoy the stock appearing shoots more than anything. Wagners or Top Guns,,,don't matter to me.

My opinion is this. Every weekend an outlaw supershoot is being held somewhere. Been there...done that...still doing that. Most everyone on here posts weekly if not daily about their local gauge shoot. Shoots that you don't need a co-signer for. A big over the top gauge shoot should bring out lots of shooters to see how they stack up.
Go Karl go!

i like the 36" 675 choke 7/8" or 1" no scopes...top gun / estates 9's 70' - 75' (good shooting)

that point system idea for the winner per round sounds interesting too on some level...

I would like to see, .675 choke, rifle sight's, and 7/8 to 1" barrel. Wagner or federal top gun shell's. Try to keep it to a meat shoot and not let it run into a super shoot. JMO How would they check the .675 chokes?

If there is interest, I'll make it a monthly shoot all year long!

Jim, we have a checker that is set to check .675 chokes. If it don't fit, I'll bore gauge it if the shooter insists its .675

So it looks like it's going down!

Set date is Feb 25th. Doors open at 9am for practice, shoot starts at 11am.

The guns are set at the average meat shoot setup of:

36" max length barrel (measured from end of receiver to end of choke)
1" max diameter (fixed sleeves, screw in or drop in chokes)
.675 choke restriction (if it don't fit our checker, then I will take the shooter aside and measure with my bore gauge to keep your setup your secret. As long as it measures .675, you can shoot it!). All choke changes will be conducted at the judging table to keep honest people honset. In other words, lets be fair to everyone and gauge it!
Scopes, rifle sights, or bead sights all ok
Bi-pods, bags, your shaky or stable hands, the rail, or whatever you want to stablize your gun (within reason, so keep your erector sets and mounted vices home!) to the bench ok.

Since there is a split on the shells, and I keep the Top Gun 9's for our regular shoot, let's just stick with that. We all know you guys hammer with the Wagners, so bring your Top gun best to the game!

Distance is 66' to the targets. Each shooter will get 2 shots per round. Our target setup is a high and a low per window, so be ready to adjust for that!

Closest to the X wins, shoot offs until we have a round winner! (split the cash if you want, but we need a round winner for the jar shoot)

We'll do the Supershoot setup of 8 rounds with an initial buy in and a $20 entry for a jar shootoff. It's been mentioned of a $125 entry or if everyone agrees, we can change that the morning of the shoot to what majority wants. This is to prepare everyone for budgeting the weekend. Between the 8 set money rounds, and to keep the spirit of a meat shoot, I can get slabs of bacon or steaks or ?? for small extra rounds in between if there is interest. Then after all is said and done the winners of the 8 set money rounds will shoot for the jar. After that, if there is still interest we can do some down the road rounds until everyone is worn out or the guns are glowing red!

We'll get the smokers and grills out to make sure a good lunch is available to ya'll shooters as well! We are listed on the shooting houses page under Potomac Hunt Club if you need the address or my number is there to contact me with any questions. Y'all got about a month to get your "A" games together so see who has the badest meat gun around!
