Super Meat Gun Shoot, Round II

Post by kjett » Mon Mar 05, 2012 5:30 pm

Time to make preps again for the next Super Meat Gun Shoot! We are going to have at it again with the same setup. I've had a ton of calls and pm's either way to change shells or keep them the same, as well as change choke or leave it. I personally would like to keep it all the same as we are already set up and ready top rock and roll that way. Also, with the warmer weather coming it, I can see the cards are going to be hit harder. Last time there was a bunch of wind to contend with that was messing with everybody, so hopefully we can work up some type of wind break to keep that in check. No promises on that parts, but we will try to work something out. So here are the details again so everybody knows and can test and tune:

Date is April 14th
36" max overall barrel length, measured from end of receiver to end of barrel (including choke!)
1" max od on barrel
.675 choke restriction
Scopes, rifle sights, beads all ok
Bi-pods, bags, your shakey hands, my carpet squares in the windows all ok

Distance is still 66' from trigger to target
Shells are still going to be Federal Top Gun 9's
Doors will open at 8am (since there was a bunch of you already there  ) and shoot starts at 10am to get you out a little earlier.

Buy in is $125 for 2 shots per round for 8 rounds. $20 jar for winners (or 2nd place if winner didn't get on jar). If y'all like the meat rounds we threw in, we can do that again as wll. Might get some beeeeeefffff for ya this time. :D

If y'all like the chicken and bbq from last time, we can do that again.

Here is the only question, touch and go, or cut the X? I know it has been a HUGE topic lately, but it's a shoot for y'all and I want EVERYONE to be happy! I have plenty of cards and shells, so I'm not worried about shoot offs. Unless MAJORITY wants touch and go judging, I plan to go with cut all 4 corners of the X. Think about it now, and the day of the shoot prior to start we will take a quick vote to see which way majority wants.
Is it time to shoot yet?

Funny John. You guys touch and cuddle up there!

Hrod, I was, but had more requests to keep everything as it was. I guess people went back and made new stuff specifically for this. So to keep from making changes each time, I'd rather have a consistent set of rules and let everyone know exactly what to expect every time.

John I agree with you I don't want to shoot ties off all night or sit and wait for ties to be shot off all night. If the wind isn't blowing and people are more prepared there will be plenty of ties with cutting the X. Just wish I had my new 870 barrel there by then but it is going to be 15 weeks before I get it. Getting this barrel made just for this kind of shoot .675 to .680. I will have my choke back doing a little R&D. Louie and me did pretty good in the last shoot shooting our Ithica's we won 2 of the 9 rounds we shot in. Why can't a man ever be satisfied ? Looking forward to that Barrett barrel.

I got me a new toy for this type of shoot. Two actually, a 212 (not ready yet) and a 210 that will be up and running this Sat. Went smaller on the bore and BIG on the paint. Ryan is guaranteeing it to look almost as good as it will shoot :-)

I guess this makes the builders happy. Everybody trying to get a leg up on the competition. I don't care if I win one round as long as I"m loading the card as good as anybody else there I will have a chance. A lit up card makes me as happy
As a win.

I want to mic your gauge. It fit loose in my .6754 choke. Might be able to squeeze a few thou. smaller. That gauge is as rough as a corn cob too.

Come on Bill! The handle is knurled like a corn cob so I can use if if somebody gives the judge grief. The end that goes in the barrel is nice and smooth. It measures right at .674 so that a broached .675 choke will fit. A smooth .6745 choke will probably fit tightly, so if you feel you need to take advantage of that and not go by the rules and end up using a choke smaller than the .675 rule, well, then we all guess what will happen to that person if it is found out during the match! Long story short, I give people room to be able to shoot and build good products. I just don't take kindly to people that want to "cheat" to take advantage........ :puter:

This isn't directed at you Bill, just a comment to ALL shooters as I heard a few people saying they were going to try .674 and smaller chokes last time. The rule is .675, so if I have to bore gauge every gun, I will. I just don't want to have to.

I can guarantee you my choke will be a little over .6755 the choke I was shooting was a .676 there were some pretty close chokes there that the checker would barely go into . I don"t care if your choke is.674 or there a bouts it's what's in the back end and taper and design.

I wish you would bore gauge every gun as long as your bore gauge is calibrated I have a brand new Skeet bore gauge that doesn't read rite if you calibrate it with the .700 ring that came with it. I had to calibrate it with a known bore and then it read rite on all my chokes. That way no one is getting by with something. Another way to do it is take the choke restriction off a don't worry about what choke somebody is shooting.

No problem. I'm going to try every other month and possibly get some other houses involved on a rotation. Just make sure you check the qualifier schedule so your dates don't conflict.

Yeah, thats what I have been trying to do. This may not be how it ends up having to work out, we know how that goes but I was hoping to hold one every month of the summer on the same weekend. Say the 3rd weekend but I will probably end up having to set them up monthly so I dont conflict with anyone elses schedule.

I think we got that figured out. if we add another piece to the top 90* to the flip down, then we can make it go back to fit him. A few screws and it will stay put so he can shoot.
